Weight Gain: Ways to fight the Battle of the Bulge

Weight Gain: Ways to fight the Battle of the Bulge
At any given moment, 33-40% of women and the 20-24% of men are trying to lose weight. Yet an estimated ¼ to 1/3 are still overweight, which increases their risk for heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes as well as gallbladder disease, gout and some types of cancer.
Traditional knowledge says that 3,500 calories equal one pound of weight. Cut the calories, burn more of them than you consume and you’ll drop pounds. That’s been the approach for years- but isn’t working. Short-term calorie-restricted diets can generally help you lose, but as much as 2/3 of that weight is generally regained within a year and almost all of it within five years.
Many diets just don’t work for the long haul. If you really want to keep the weight off the rest of your life, you have to change your lifestyle.
Here’s some ways to lose fat wisely and increase your chances of keeping it off.
1. Decide first if you truly need to lose weight. Look at your shape, height, weight, and history of obesity-linked diseases and the history of those factors in your family.
2. Make a plan. Once you decide you’re ready to change your lifestyle to reach a desirable weight, you’ll have to figure out how to do that. Most experts recommend learning to make nutritionally sound food choices, eating an adequate amount of food each day, and increase your physical activity.
3. Don’t plan to lose too much too soon. Rapid weight loss generally means a rapid weight gain down the road. Don’t try to lose more than half a pound a week.
4. Pick a good time. Don’t decide to start this the week before your wedding or right after you lose your job. You don’t want to choose a period of high stress only to add additional stress.
5. Don’t try to change everything at once. It’s unrealistic to think that tomorrow you’ll completely redo your food habits in some 180-degree shift.
6. Measure your foods. Doing this tedious chore for a few days can help train your eye to recognize portion sizes.
7. Eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. Skipping meals leads to binge eating.
8. Make sure you eat enough. That’s music to any dieter’s ears. Starvation diets leads to bingeing and lowered metabolism.
9. Cut the fat. Cutting out high-fat foods can benefit much more than your figure-you’ll lower risk of heart disease and some cancers. Fat is nature’s way of crowding a lot of calories or energy into food. A gram of fat (one-fourth of a teaspoon) contain 9 calories, while a gram of protein or carbohydrate has four.
10. Exercise. Exercise is the key in losing weight. Obviously, exercise burns calories. But according to some researchers, it may also increase your metabolism, possibly for as long as 18 hours after you’ve works out. So you end up burning more calories, even after your workout.

Short Story: Barangay Maytinago

Barangay Maytinago

In a small barrio where I’ve got the opportunity to visit last November, I’ve been interested in their customs and traditions, particularly on All Soul’s Day when barrio people do rituals and other peculiar activities. I met Mang Alon, a 75 year old settler of barrio Maytinago. As a common tradition, they invited me to stay in their house for a night as a visitor.

Because I was so tired from roaming around, seeing the beautiful sites of the place, I decided to go to bed past 10:00 in the evening. But before entering the room, I heard unfamiliar sounds coming from the last at the end of the hallway. It seemed that someone was mumbling, murmuring like some Latin words or someone’s doing a ritual of what?

For curiosity reasons, I walked into the next door where I’ve heard those sounds. As I went near the room, I heard it louder and the words become clearer to my ears. I started to tremble and my heart beat faster as if it will burst out any time. I could hardly breathe. I could feel the coldness of the place. I felt frozen. However, instead of running away, I couldn’t believe myself. I was already in front of the door, peeping in at the old bamboo wall.

Oh my gosh! What’s that? I saw the room cast with red light, candles were lighted, dark smoke inside the room, and were some human skulls and bones, some stuffed animals of different kinds, and wait… I also saw Mang Alon, dressed in long, black gown with a “putong” on his head. I recognized him because the room was lighted with candles and I really saw his face. Then suddenly someone touched my shoulder, and when I looked back, I saw Mang Alon standing in front of me. I was tongue-tied to see him smiling at me. But suddenly everything turned black and I collapse.

By the time I opened my eyes, I was in bed. I wondered what the truth was. Did I have a bad dream of too much stress? I went home.

My experienced and the questions have occupied a place in my mind which I think I will never find an answer in this lifetime.

Students Attitude towards studying

Student’s attitudes towards studying

Why are we in school? To study in order to learn, of course. We need to study for our own benefit and not for other else. And as we have to relate our studies according to our aim and ambition in life.

We have to think that we study not only because of quizzes, assignments written ouputs, recitations but what it can give /provide to us in the future. All the things we learned: the facts, the values, the knowledge and all those stuffs can do much in pour thinking for our future.

But some of us, just disregard studying, they just take it for granted. In a way no passing of projects, no making of activities, no participation in any discussion.

The ending of the school year comes when the students asked for parents, teachers help in order to pass the subject. And, On my! It’s already late. The records have been finished. The grade has been already submitted. Then what?

cosmetics of love

Cosmetics of love

In times of loneliness, I’m wishing
That you were the cosmetic of love
Wish that you were the lotion
That will take care of my skin

Wish that you were a face powder
That will touch my cheeks
Wish that you were the eyeliner
That will highlight my eyes

Wish those toys were lipsticks
That kisses my lips
And I’m wishing strongly that you
Will be the man I can be with forever

bestfriend

Best friend

You’re my someone,
You’re my sweetest one.
A someone who makes me feel comfortable.

In time of needs
You are there for me toke an on,
A shoulder to cry on.

That is why…
A friend like you
‘Till heaven I will miss you.

Who likes untidy?

Who likes untidy?

It’s always cleanliness and proper disposal of that garbage is a problem that’s new among school administrators. Every opening of the classes, it is often talked about and in included in the school’s regulations. But it is useless. School grounds and gardens are still flowering with plastic cups, drinking straws, and papers. Filthy odors of garbage at the backdoor of every room is still smelled after being failed to be thrown by students and stocked for a quite many days.

Every classroom has fixed its sets of sweepers assigned to clean designated areas every day. And yet, students don’t perform their duties well. They often failed to do their tasks if there are assignments especially because it’s already a habit to them to make their assignments in school instead of making it at home. Sometimes, they work but in the 11th hour that a part of the first subjects time is consumed.

Some people may say that the environment reflects the character of the persons living in it. If a classroom is unclean, it only means that the students of that certain room are lack of discipline and responsibility. How can we listen properly to the teacher’s discussion and attain quality education then? And to do we like to hear from other people that we’re responsible? We don’t. Then what should we do now?

We’re just good in reporting to the class about air pollution but we are unable to do some prevention for the problem.

Who likes untidy? Who like room of an after storm or a dumpsite? Nobody. If that’s so, why wait for the trash can to come to you after eating cookies of drinking juice in the canteen?

Garbage problem is an effect due to lack of discipline. If we still think of the good of the people and for tomorrow, have the change within yourself. Do what’s supposed to be just to maintain cleanliness of your surroundings. Bear in mind that what you throw goes back to you.
